Hugh Jackman honoured

The Wolverine star will receive Zurich Film Festival’s Golden Icon Award.

Wolverine better brush off the tux. Hugh Jackman will receive the Golden Icon Award at this year’s Zurich Film Festival in recognition of his achievements on stage and screen.

In addition to being feted, Jackman will present his latest film, the awards-hopeful Prisoners in the Gala Premieres section of the festival.

Directed by Denis Villeneuve and co-starring Jake Gyllenhaal and Viola Davis, the movie follows a father’s desperate search for his six-year old daughter after she goes missing.

The festival will take place in Switzerland from Sept 26 to Oct 6 and Jackman will pick up his prize at a ceremony on Sept 28.

“Hugh Jackman is in a class by himself as a multi-talented entertainer with a global following,” Zurich Film Festival director Karl Spoerri said in a statement.

“There is nothing he can’t do and he proves this time and time again with every project he’s involved in. We’re honoured to recognise his brilliant career at the Zurich Film Festival.”

Jackman is an Academy Award-nominated, Golden Globe and Tony Award-winning actor, whose films include roles as the short-tempered Wolverine in the X-Men series, a reformed convict in the film version of Les Miserables and an acclaimed turn on Broadway as the 1970s singer/songwriter Peter Allen in The Boy From Oz. — Reuters
