MELISSA McCarthy is up for a part in Susan Cooper, a spy comedy with a feminine twist, Thewrap.com reports.

McCarthy, 42, is in talks with Fox on her involvement. The actress will be working in familiar conditions, as Susan Cooper will be directed by Paul Feig, who has already directed her in Bridesmaids and The Heat.

While written to be humorous, Susan Cooper is also meant to be realistic and convincing. If successful, the film is likely to lead to a string of sequels in the style of the James Bond or Mission: Impossible sagas.

Feig and McCarthy are still savouring their success from The Heat, in which Sandra Bullock plays a clean-cut, no-nonsense FBI agent who is forced to collaborate with a tough Boston cop (McCarthy). The film has earned some US$140mil (RM450mil) at the North American box office alone. – AFP Relaxnews

Watson for The Secret Service?

EMMA Watson is being considered by Matthew Vaughn for his next film, Variety reports.

She appears to be competing with Bella Heathcote (Dark Shadows) for the top female role in The Secret Service, Vaughn’s return to directing after 2011’s X-Men: First Class.

Like Kick-Ass, Vaughn’s prior effort to First Class, the new film is based on a comic by Mark Millar. A spy thriller, The Secret Service depicts a young man headed towards delinquency until his uncle, an elite MI6 agent, brings him on to the “right” path.

Colin Firth will play the mentor of the main character. Matthew Vaughn is taking a chance on a newcomer, Taron Egerton, in the leading role. Michael Caine is also expected to participate in the film, with production expected to begin in the autumn. – AFP Relaxnews
