Movie updates

THE signs have been there, but here comes news from the man himself: Christian Bale won’t play Batman in a Justice League movie, should a big-screen teamup of DC Comics’ greatest heroes ever happen.

According to EW.com, Bale said those involved in Christopher Nolan’s acclaimed Batman trilogy “were incredibly fortunate to get to make three (films). That’s enough. Let’s not get greedy.” Bale also told EW he has not been involved in talks about a Justice League movie.

The actor had earlier said he would not do another Batman movie unless Nolan would make a fourth film, which the director says won’t happen. David Goyer, scriptwriter for Man Of Steel, has also stated that the Justice League’s Batman would be a rebooted version.

If it gets made, such a movie would most probably feature Superman and Batman; other likely candidates include Wonder Woman, Green Lantern, Aquaman and The Flash.

More contraband for Wahlberg

US ACTOR and producer Mark Wahlberg is planning to team up again with director Peter Berg (Battleship) for a thriller about Miami drug trafficking in the 1970s and 80s, reports Deadline.com.

American Desperado will be scripted by William Monahan, the Oscar-winning writer of The Departed. Wahlberg will play a small-time hoodlum from the New York mafia who rises up the ranks to become a top smuggler for the Medellin Cartel, bringing drugs from Colombia to Florida.

The film draws on bloodhound journalist Evan Wright’s eponymous book, published in 2011, relating three years of interviews with Jon Roberts, who grew up in the mafia.

Django foes re-team

DJANGO Unchained adversaries Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx will work together on a crime drama entitled Mean Business On North Ganson Street, reports Deadline.com.

Based on an as-yet-unpublished novel by S. Craig Zahler, the movie will tell the story of two detectives with tarnished reputations who wind up working together in a crime-filled Missouri town where police officers are being murdered.

Zahler will be involved in the movie adaptation of his book and DiCaprio will also get behind the camera as producer. – AFP Relaxnews
