The cast and sponsors of SuperMokh. The hugely successful musical will be restaged.
The story of late footballer Mokhtar Dahari will be restaged by popular demand.
BY popular demand, SuperMokh The Musical is back!
First staged in November 2013 with 17 sold-out performances, it tells the life of one of Malaysia’s best-loved icons – the late footballer Mokhtar Dahari – known as Super Mokh to his thousands of fans.
With the blessings of the Sultan Of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, Datin Tengku Zarina and Mokhtar’s family, the musical is once again produced by Tall Order Productions and Jugra Publication.
In the first season, audiences were thrilled by the performances of Awie as Mokhtar and Maya Karin as Tengku Zarina, supported by a star-studded cast that included Douglas Lim, Dina Nadzir, Rashidi Ishak, Radhi Khalid, Phoon Chi Ho, Oliver Johanan and Clarence Kuna.
The world-class music is composed by music director Michael Veerapan, with Adlin Ahmad Ramli as lyricist, and the dance performances are choreographed by Adzwadi Saini.
Producers were also gratified to discover many young Malaysians in the audience who had never had the excitement of seeing Mokhtar play in real life. For many in the audience, SuperMokh revealed parts of the footballer’s life that was previously unknown. Memories and national pride were rekindled with the names of Soh Chin Aun, Santokh Singh and Arumugam.
“CIMB is very pleased to be supporting this amazing production chronicling the exploits of one of Malaysia’s most celebrated sporting icons who has inspired many. We hope that through SuperMokh, all who watch it will get to know the late Mokhtar Dahari and better appreciate the glorious past of Malaysian football and perhaps Malaysia too. With the show’s successful first outing back in November 2013, we believe that it will receive yet another overwhelming response from theatre goers,” said Datuk Seri Nazir Razak, group chief executive of CIMB Group.
The Sultan has agreed to be the patron of the production and will host a gala night.
