YOU may hunt for cosmetics in a pharmacy or skincare warehouse sales perhaps, but at a bookstore?

Well, Times Bookstore maybe a leading book retailer but it has extended beyond the printed page by offering Bonne Belle’s collection of exciting Lip Smacker lip balms.

As the world’s first flavoured lip gloss since 1973, Lip Smacker comes in different fruit flavours ranging from strawberry, watermelon, grapes to banana. Adding more hype to their collection is the partnership with candy companies (Starburst, Skittles and M&Ms), soft drink manufacturers (Coca Cola, 7Up and Rootbeer) as well as characters such as Paul Frank, Disney’s Cheetah Girls and Mattle’s Barbie. Besides lip balms, Lip Smacker also offers lip glosses, shimmer body spray and lip sparklers.

Sold as individual pieces and in sets – between two and 12 pieces – the products come in various flavours ranging from Coca Cola, Fanta Orange, Fanta Strawberry, Fanta Grape to Sprite. There’s also Paul Frank’s limited edition lip balms that come in funky fusion flavours such as Julius’ Red Raspberry, Julius’ Strawberry Banana, Bunny Girl’s Coconut Cream, Chachi’s Fried Ice Cream and Clancy’s Cotton Candy.

“Times Bookstore is a lifestyle bookstore. We offer a wide variety of products that cater to readers of all ages and interests including children’s books, lifestyle and non-fiction books. We decided to expand our repertoire by offering Lip Smacker products,” says Times Bookstore marketing manager Sherene Chew.

“Since the cosmetics line made its way to our shores in December 2011, it has received overwhelming response from customers, mainly teenagers and young women.

“The products are popular and aside from the wide variety of flavours available, the products are also safe for children,” says Chew, adding that the products are priced between RM5.90 and RM69.90.

In addition to being fun to use, Lip Smacker products are said to give effective conditioning.

Multiple moisturisers and emollients help to prevent and guard against dry, chapped and cracked lips.

The products are touted to be made from safe ingredients and contain castor oil, beeswax, sesame oil and hydrogenated soy glycerides.

As for flavouring and fragrance, they contain natural and artificial ingredients, all of which are GRAS (Generally Recognized As Safe) for use in cosmetics and food products.

According to thebonnebellcompany.com, these ingredients give Lip Smacker products their characteristic flavour and aroma.

n Bonne Belle Lipsmacker lip balms are available at Times Bookstore at Pavilion KL, Bangsar Shopping Centre, Hartamas Shopping Centre in KL, and Citta Mall and Sunway Giza in Selangor.
