Battersea wins Developer of the Year award

KUALA LUMPUR: The redevelopment of the Malaysia-linked Battersea Power Station was handed the Developer of the Year award at the 2015 international Emirates Glass LEAF awards ceremony in London recently.

The LEAF (Leading European Architects Forum) awards panel reviewed entries from around the world and judged the Battersea Power Station to be the most compelling nomination for the Developer of the Year category, Sime Darby Property said in a statement on Thursday.

Battersea, owned by a Malaysian consortium comprising SP Setia, Sime Darby and the Employees Provident Fund, was also shortlisted for the Best Future Building category.

Battersea Power Station Development Company chief executive Officer Rob Tincknell described the award as an incredible honour.

"Thanks to the vision and determination of our shareholders, the boundless potential that lies on this central London, riverside site, is finally being unlocked.

"Next year will see the first new homeowners moving into what will become a vibrant new neighbourhood populated by shops, cafes, restaurants, office space and acres of green space," he said.

The redevelopment of Battersea will see the iconic London landmark fully restored and put at the heart of a vibrant new neighbourhood being created on the 42-acre riverside site.

The site will be served by a new tube station located at the foot of the High Street which opens out onto Malaysia Square, a dual level town square which takes its architectural inspiration from the Mulu Caves of Sarawak. - Bernama
