LOCAL banks that have been on a fund-raising streak in these soft economic times are not necessarily sending a signal that things will become worse with their need for more capital.
Instead, most Malaysian banks are already well-capitalised with capital that should last them until at least 2017. Their fund-raising should be seen as a measure of protection more than anything else, one analyst says.
