Mercedes-Benz Malaysia sales rise 53% in first half

KUALA LUMPUR: Mercedes-Benz Malaysia achieved a 53% sales growth for passenger cars in the first half of 2015 with 5,163 units registered from 3,366 units in the corresponding period last year.

President and chief executive officer Roland Folger said the growth was mainly driven by locally produced models, such as the C, E and S class, with sales increasing 62% to 3,787 units.

"The E-Class, in leading the pack, registered 1,967 units sold and the performance was a 41% increase from the first half of 2014, " he said at a briefing on the company's first-half performance in Kuala Lumpur today.

The C-Class maintained its strong growth momentum after being crowned "Car of the Year" in April. It registered sales of 1,104 units, up 38% versus the first half 2014.

Folger said the S-Class continued its uptrend to record higher sales of 719 units.

In May 2015, Mercedes-Benz delivered 1,143 units, up 110% from a year ago, and recorded the strongest sales month in the company's history.

For the second half of 2015, the group remains confident of better growth, driven by all the existing and upcoming models, Fogler said.

Commenting on upcoming models, Folger said the group will be launching the C63 within the next four weeks. "We see a huge demand for the model globally and Malaysians have been enquiring about the model," he added. - Bernama
