April inflation lower than forecast


Economists have been looking to the April inflation data report to give some guidance on the inflation outlook for the year following the implementation of the GST.

PETALING JAYA: Malaysian consumer prices came in surprisingly lower than expected in April, an inflation gauge showed.

The consumer price index measuring headline inflation, gained 1.8% for the month compared with a year earlier, below economists’ expectations for a 2.2% rise. Compared with March, there was a 0.9% increase. The Government had expected a 1.1% jump.
