Likely tariff cut lifts spirits

KUCHING: Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem’s likely announcement of a reduction in commercial and industrial power tariffs this week has raised expections among manufacturers and commercial and industrial users.

Adenan had promised to unveil the new commercial and industrial tariffs this month, following the reduction in domestic tariff rates that had taken effect on Jan 1, 2015. Some 240,000 or close to 50% of Syarikat Sesco Bhd’s, a wholly owned subsidiary of Sarawak Energy Bhd or SEB, domestic customers have benefited from lower tariffs of up to more than 40%.
