Gartner: Smartphone sales crossed 1b units in 2014


KUALA LUMPUR: Global sales of smartphones to end users totaled 1.2 billion units, up 28.4% from 2013 and represented two-thirds of global mobile phone sales, says leading IT research and advisory company Gartner, Inc.

It said on Thursday that worldwide mobile phone sales to end users totaled nearly 1.9 billion units in 2014, a 3.9 percent increase from the same period in 2013. All regions recorded growth in 2014, except Japan and Western Europe, which recorded declines of 2.8% and 9.1%, respectively
