KUALA LUMPUR: Karex Bhd's net profit for its second quarter ended Dec 31, 2014 rose 28.7% to RM14.54mil from RM11.29mil a year earlier.
In a filing to Bursa Malaysia on Thursday, the condom manufacturer said its revenue declined 6.3% to RM76.99mil from RM82.17mil a year earlier.
Earnings per share stood at 3.59 sen from 2.96 sen for the period.
For its half year to-date, net earnings more than doubled to RM27.37mil from RM10.83mil a year earlier while revenue jumped 79% to RM147.13mil from RM82.17mil a year ago.
Commenting on its results, Karex said that its earnings increased due to sales of higher profit margin products, favourable currency exchange rates and raw material prices.
Moving forward, the group said the demand for condoms is expected to rise in tandem with population growth and increasing awareness on the importance of condom usage among the younger generation.
"The group foresees good prospect for FYE 2015 as the group continues to secure new orders on the back of rising demand," it said.
