Prasarana’s Shahril Mokhtar takes charge of MRT Corp


KUALA LUMPUR: The former group managing director of Syarikat Prasarana Malaysia Bhd, Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar formally took charge of Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) as its new CEO on Monday and his main focus is to ensure the momentum for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang is maintained.

He clocked in for his first day at the MRT Corp headquarters in Bukit Damansara this morning.
 
As part of his duties on the first day as CEO, his met the management team of MRT Corp and he called on MRT Corp chairman Tan Sri Dr Ali Hamsa.
 
Shahril, 42, takes over from Datuk Wira Azhar Abdul Hamid who resigned last year.
 
“I would like to thank the government for entrusting me with helming the company which is developing the Klang Valley MRT Project. As in-coming CEO, my main focus will be to ensure the momentum that has brought about good progress for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang is maintained,” he said.
 
As at Dec 15, 2014, construction of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line was at 57.62%, which was according to the programme.
 
“As we ensure that the construction of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line proceeds smoothly, MRT Corp is also in the midst of preparing to start the process to develop the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line,” he said.
 
He added the public display of the railway scheme for the MRT Sungai Buloh-Serdang-Putrajaya Line was expected to start in March.
 
Before being appointed to help MRT Corp, Shahril was the group managing director of Prasarana where he oversaw the restructuring of the country’s largest public transport company.
 
Prior to taking up that position in 2010, he was the chief operating officer of the Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat (SPAD).

Before moving to SPAD, Shahril was the general manager of corporate planning in RapidKL.

He was seconded as an adviser to the Economic Planning Unit in the Prime Minister’s Department where he was involved in drafting the Suruhanjaya Pengangkutan Awam Darat Act 2010 and the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
 
He was also involved in the laboratory for urban public transport improvement which was held as part of the Government Transformation Plan.
 
Shahril holds a Master of Management (with distinction) from the University of Malaya and a Bachelor of Science in Industrial and Organisational Psychology from the University of Missouri.
