MSM plans to expand through acquisitions

PETALING JAYA: Although MSM Malaysia Holdings Bhd registered a 35% lower profit for its third quarter ended Sept 30, the sugar refiner remains focused on growing through acquisitions, having set its sight on its only local competitor, Central Sugars Refinery Sdn Bhd, that is owned by Tradewinds (M) Bhd.

“Any opportunities to buy for the betterment of the shareholders, MSM will do it, be it local or foreign, if the price is right. We are on a shopping spree,” president and group chief executive officer Datuk Sheikh Awab Sheikh Abod told StarBiz yesterday.
