I doubt many people were surprised when Bank Negara decided to raise interest rates for the first time in three years recently. In fact, most were expecting such a move after the statement issued in the wake of the monetary policy committee meeting in May broadly hinted that rates would go up.
And the central bank delivered when it raised the overnight policy rate by a quarter of a per cent to 3.25%.
