FILING for protection from creditors is not unusual in the aviation business. In the United States, more than 40 airlines had filed for protection since the late 1970s and in Asia, an example is Japan Airlines that filed for bankcruptcy in 2009.
Sometimes an airline that is not on the verge of banckruptcy but bleeding under a pile of debt also tends to file for protection from creditors to facilitate a restructuring.
