An interest rate increase in July does not seem plausible anymore

The likelihood of any hike in the overnight policy rate (OPR) in the first half of this year was slim going into 2014 given slowing domestic demand, coupled with uncertainties over the growth outlook.

Instead, the market expects at least a 25-basis point hike in the second half with several economists expecting the hike to be announced in July following a policy meeting.
