PETALING JAYA: Recent attempts to dump cheap steel bars into Malaysia do not pose a major threat to local steel manufacturers, said Malaysia Steel Works (KL) Bhd (Masteel) managing director and chief executive officer Datuk Seri Tai Hean Leng.
“Local construction sites are wary of such imported steel bars’ quality (rusts and bent ends), unreliable documentation and difficulties in defect claims,” he told StarBiz via email, adding that the amount of steel bars being “dumped” here from foreign producers was low.
