THE Malaysian tax system has not really been through a major revamp. What has been done all this while has been in the form of an ad-hoc tinkering of the system. This becomes even more crucial as we head towards the 2020 timeline set by the Government to achieve developed nation status – that calls for an effective and efficient tax system as well!
We need a public review of the tax system with significant involvement of the business sector and other stakeholders, and this should not be driven by the public sector.
