MRT Corp inks RM8.28b underground works with MMC-Gamuda

KUALA LUMPUR: Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd has signed the RM8.28bil deal with MMC-Gamuda KVMRT (T) Sdn Bhd for the underground works of the MRT Sungai Buloh-Kajang Line.

MRT Corp said on Friday the agreement was for the design, construction and completion of the underground works located between the Semantan north portal and Maluri south portal.

"The underground works include the construction of tunnels, stations and associated structures along this stretch, value at RM8.28bil," it said.

MMC-Gamuda KVMRT is a 50:50 joint venture between MMC Corporation Bhd and Gamuda Bhd.

Ten tunnel boring machines would be used to excavate 9.5km underground section of the 51km line. The section will include seven underground stations.

MRT Corp said phase one of the line from Sungai Buloh to Semantan would be operational by end-2016 and phase two from Semantan to Kajang by July 2017, whereby the trains could be able to run the entire stretch from Sungai Buloh to Kajang.
